It makes sense that any artwork representing Birmingham, artwork that will go on display in Birmingham should be created by or depict the people of Birmingham. That was the exact thinking when image maker Adam Magyar teamed up with Rhubarb-Rhubarb a Birmingham base international photography development agency to create a piece of artwork for Birmingham.
Magyer requires minimum of 300 people to create a unique piece of artwork for our town. The 300 will be made up of local people, Birmingham’s Young Olympic hopefuls and creative individuals from different art industries. The piece that will be created as already been entitled – Walking As One as the participants are litterly being asked to just walk for the camera.
The shoot itself will take place on 24 July 2010 at 6pm Centenary Square, Broad Street (If raining, the walk will be across the stage at Birmingham Repertory Theatre). The finished work will be unveiled on 1 August at 5.30pm on the enormous hoarding outside the new site of the library of Birmingham.
Walking As One will remain outside the Library for 2 months, and there will be another chance to see more of Adam’s work at The Mailbox, five minutes walk from Centenary Square between 24th July and 5th August.
