“Everyone’s invited”
Yes, everyone is invited. Whether you’re dining out in Birmingham or you just want to rustle up a Jalfrezi at home for friends and family, everyone can celebrate 200 mouth-watering years of Indian cuisine in the UK.
The 2009 National Curry Week (22nd-28th November) is a week of fun, food and fundraising. Over the past 10 years The Curry Tree Charitable Fund and National Curry Week have been raising money for a large number of charities, including Action Against Hunger and Oxfam.
If you’re a curry lover and you also care about the world, you can do your bit during National Curry Week. Help Birmingham and the rest of the UK raise funds for the world’s poor and hungry. Not only can you help children and families in third world countries, but you can also bring something magical back into Birmingham. National Curry Week is the perfect chance for restaurants and balti houses to improve their culinary skills and this ensures that standards improve every single year.
Show your respect during National Curry Week with a feast at home or join us in one of the many eateries in Birmingham’s famous Balti Triangle!
“Balti is an entirely Birmingham thing, invented by the local Pakistani population in the mid-80s. They wanted to serve food in the bowl it was cooked in, in the traditional way, but instead of slow-cooking meat on the bone as they do in Pakistan, they had to adapt to suit Western tastes. So the balti bowl was invented and the balti method of fast-cooking over a high flame, using meat off the bone, was born, ” — AndyMunro, Birmingham Balti Association.
