Small act = big impact.  There are plenty of things in life that achieve this – because it’s the little things that make a massive difference.  For instance, returning to my hotel room after a conference to find flowers, balloons, champagne and a pair of diamond earrings is just a big gesture from a flashy man with a wad in his pocket (wad of money, I mean).

But when the boy next door who doesn’t have a clue what women want (has he not seen the film?) attempts – for the first time might I add – to rustle up a meal (even if it is just beans on toast), it’s pretty monumental.

For £15 and a little bit of your time, you can help to change the world.  Trees are bursting with untapped wildlife, and you can provide a wonderful environment for flora and fauna right here in Birmingham.

Get the city of Birmingham involved with Tree O Clock.  At 11am on the 5th December, you can roll up your sleeves to plant a tree in order to break a Guinness world record attempt.  Tree O Clock is the attempt to plant as many trees as possible in just one hour, between 11am and 12 noon.  This national world record attempt will help to support and sustain biodiversity – and it’s as easy and 1,2,3!

  1. Get yourself a tree
  2. Plant it between 11am and 12noon
  3. Email your photograph to the BBC organisers

Want to take part? So where can you get a tree?  Visit the website to find out more about free tree giveaways, or view a list of stockists in Birmingham and the West Midlands, right here.
