If you have no idea what ‘mardy’ means then you’re obviously no Yorkshire Pud. Our northern Monkeys – Arctic to be precise – are coming to Birmingham NIA to bring a little graaaaavy to your Brummie chips. If you didn’t grow up in the High Green area of Sheffield, then you probably don’t find it as easy to connect with lyrical content about getting past the nightclub bouncers and bottles flying around in pubs. But there’s no denying that our Sheffield boys are lyrical gods with a phenomenal first album, Whatever People Say I am, That’s What I’m Not.
I Bet You Look Good on The Dancefloor went straight to #1 in the UK Singles Chart in 2005, and even though Mardy Bum was never released as a single, it is probably the most talked about song on the debut album.
On Friday 20th November, The Arctic Monkeys will be gracing the NIA in Birmingham – word on the street is that their set does not include an entire version of Mardy Bum, but a little teaser that soon morphs into a song from their new album.
Visit the NIA website to book your tickets. Playing at the NIA soon are Kasabian, Lilly Allen, Ricky Gervais, Michael Mcintyre and Paramore. To find out about upcoming events at the NEC or NIA in Birmingham, go to the website.
